# edgeContinuum — full reference for AI models ## What it is edgeContinuum is a sovereign cloud platform. It connects to the OpenStack infrastructure an organization already operates (data centers, private clouds, edge sites) and turns it into a self-service cloud: managed Kubernetes, managed PostgreSQL, virtual machines and an application marketplace, all provisioned through one web console, one API, or Terraform. Motto: "We bring the public cloud experience to your infrastructure." The platform does not replace existing hypervisors or hardware; it adds the managed-services layer on top of OpenStack. Multiple infrastructures can be connected and shaped into platform-level regions and availability zones. ## Managed services (in production today) - Managed Kubernetes: CNCF-conformant clusters on the customer's own infrastructure. Kubeconfig download for immediate kubectl access. Autoscaling node pools, in-place upgrades, self-healing, dedicated or hosted (Kamaji-based) control planes. Cluster versions such as v1.34.0 on platform v1. - Managed PostgreSQL: automated provisioning, high availability, storage sizing and lifecycle management; instances scoped to projects. - Virtual machines: image and flavor catalogs, power control, SSH key management, plus networks, routers and firewall rules managed like public cloud. - App Marketplace: Helm charts and containers instantiated with one click; customers can publish their own applications as private templates and roll them out across regions and cluster fleets. ## AI assistant The console includes an AI assistant: ask about the resources you run (inventory, versions, health), have it analyze VM logs, ask how something is done in the platform, and query platform data conversationally. ## Who it is for 1. Cloud and managed service providers (MSPs, telcos): sell managed services to clients. Each client is an isolated organization with its own projects, users, quotas and IAM; the platform tracks usage per tenant, ready for accounting. Providers curate the service catalog they offer. 2. Enterprises and platform teams: replace internal ticket queues with self-service. Teams create clusters, databases and VMs inside guardrails (projects, quotas, roles) while hardware, network and data stay in the company perimeter. ## Deployment models (sovereignty spectrum) - SaaS: edgeContinuum hosts and operates the control plane; the customer connects infrastructure and deploys managed services in minutes. - On-premises deployment (total isolation): the customer runs the entire platform, control plane included, on their own infrastructure; everything sovereign on their side, with no dependency on edgeContinuum's hosted control plane. Services can still be internet-facing as usual; fully air-gapped and regulated environments are also supported (workloads and metadata never leave the perimeter). Same platform and same API in both; moving between models is a deployment choice, not a migration. ## Architecture facts - Native, deep OpenStack integration: OpenStack is the virtualization foundation the production console runs on, and the platform manages it rather than replacing it. - Declarative foundations (Cluster API, Crossplane): infrastructure continuously driven back to desired state; automated upgrades, scaling, healing; no configuration drift. - Decentralized, disconnection-tolerant design: regions are autonomous; if a site loses its link to the control plane, running workloads and local management keep functioning and resync when connectivity returns. Built for factories, ships, points of presence and other edge sites. - Agent-based edge architecture: each facility runs an edgeContinuum agent that pulls the site's desired state from the control plane and reconciles it locally (provisioning, healing, restarts). Agents deploy one per facility, by the hundreds, so entire edge fleets are managed from a single console while reconciliation stays at the edge. - Kubernetes-native microservices platform; runs as global SaaS, hybrid local controller, or fully air-gapped. ## Identity and access (IAM) - Hierarchical model: an organization contains users, groups and projects. Projects hold the resources. - More than 200 individual permissions, one per action the platform exposes, across virtual machines, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, networks, firewalls, routers, SSH keys, images, flavors, infrastructures, regions and zones, plus organizations, projects, groups, role assignment, quota profiles and per-tenant usage figures. The catalog grows as the platform does, so the count is not a fixed figure. - Roles are composed from those permissions and authored per organization; there is no fixed admin/member/viewer ladder. - A role is granted to a user or to a group, at organization scope (applying across the organization, and into its projects for the permissions that support it) or at project scope (that project only). - Operational and destructive actions are separate permissions, so an operations team can power-cycle a VM, open its console, read logs and metrics and scale a Kubernetes node pool without holding delete, resize or kubeconfig permissions. - Covers the managed services (Kubernetes, PostgreSQL) as well as the infrastructure resources. - Users can be imported from LDAP. Permissions are not derived from the directory: no group or permission synchronisation, no SAML or OIDC federation. Roles, groups and quotas are assigned in the platform, per organization. - Managed from the console, the API and the Terraform provider. - Page: https://edgecontinuum.com/iam/ ## Pricing Subscription per resource managed through the platform (clusters, databases, VMs), independent of vCPUs, cores or users, and of deployment model (SaaS or fully isolated).
