Can Proxmox be multitenant?

Up to a point, and the limit is worth knowing before you build on it. Proxmox VE has users, groups, pools and a fine-grained permission system, so you can carve a cluster into areas and delegate them. What it does not model is a tenant as a first-class object: there is no organization that owns projects, carries its own quota envelope and reports its own consumption. So multi-tenant Proxmox in practice means naming conventions, careful ACLs and a spreadsheet, and it holds until someone needs a hard limit or an auditable number.

Frequently asked questions

What are the main Proxmox alternatives?
It depends what you outgrew. If you want a different hypervisor, the usual names are VMware vSphere, XCP-ng, Hyper-V and oVirt derivatives: all still one virtualization layer. If what you actually ran out of is tenancy, managed services or multi-site management, the comparison is not another hypervisor but a platform layer, and that is where OpenStack based options and edgeContinuum sit. It is worth deciding which of the two problems you have before shortlisting, because they lead to completely different tools.
Is Proxmox multitenant enough for serving clients?
For a small number of clients you trust, with an admin paying attention, it can be. Proxmox VE gives you users, groups, pools and granular permissions. What is missing is a tenant object that owns projects, carries an enforced quota and reports its own usage, so isolation rests on convention and review rather than on the platform. Once clients need hard limits, their own self-service, or numbers you can defend in an audit or an invoice, that gap is the reason teams move up a layer.
Is this overkill for a handful of nodes?
Probably, and we will say so on the call. edgeContinuum earns its place when you have tenants to isolate, managed services to offer, or more than one site to keep consistent. Below that, a plain hypervisor is a reasonable answer.
Do our Proxmox VMs migrate?
VM images import into OpenStack with standard tooling and are then managed as platform resources with catalogs, networks and firewall rules. Our engineers work the migration plan with you.
Why OpenStack instead of building on Proxmox?
